How to Install a Sign Tray on a Wall

Fixing a sign tray to a wall using fixing angle and screws? Follow these steps for a secure, level, and flush finish.

What’s included -

• Sign tray

• Fixing angle section(s) for mounting (top and bottom)

• Colour-coded Polyop screws (for attaching the tray to the angles)

• Suitable screws and wall plugs (match to substrate)

Tools you’ll need -

• Spirit level and tape measure

• Drill & masonry bit (if fixing to brick/block)

• Screwdriver/driver bit

• Pencil/marker

• PPE (gloves/eye protection)

Before you start -

Confirm the wall substrate and choose the correct plugs/screws.

Check for hidden services.

Dry-fit the tray to understand where the angles will sit inside the returns.

Step-by-step installation -

1. Position & drill for the angles

Offer the angle(s) to the wall so they will sit inside the tray’s top and bottom returns. Level, mark, and drill the wall at the fix points (use wall plugs if required).

2. Fix angles to the wall

Screw the angle(s) securely to the wall. These will carry the tray’s weight and keep it square.

3. Mount the tray over the angles

Lift the sign tray into place so its returns capture the angles. Check level.

4. Drill through returns & angles

With the tray held in position, drill through the tray returns and the angle (top and bottom) to create through-fix points.

5. Secure the tray

Insert and tighten screws through the returns into the angle top and bottom. Tighten evenly; avoid over-tightening to prevent panel distortion and screw head damage. The tray is now fully fitted.

Pro tips -

Even torque: Tighten fixings in an alternating pattern can help to keep faces flush.

Thermal allowance: On wider trays, avoid clamping one corner fully before the others.

Troubleshooting -

Tray rocks on the wall: Re-check that angles are co-planar and fully tightened.

Loose substrate: Use longer fixings, larger plugs, or a chemical anchor; relocate any failed hole.
