In 2001, George Akerlof was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his study on "asymmetric information." He explored a dilemma every sign maker faces: the "Market for Lemons."

In short, when a buyer cannot distinguish between a high-quality product (an "orange") and a poor-quality one (a "lemon"), the market becomes flooded with sub-standard goods. For an installer, a "lemon" is a substrate that delaminates or a fixing that shears under load. These errors cost you your reputation and your profit margin.
