About Ashby
A Little About Us
We’re a supplier to the UK sign industry based in a 32,000 square foot factory just off the M3 in Basingstoke, Hampshire. Over the course of our near 30 years in the industry we have built up a highly extensive range of machinery, skills and knowledge that enables us to supply attractive, durable and relevant sign systems within the UK and Ireland. We pride ourselves on our ‘over the phone’ pricing, live on site pricing, our rapid turn-around times and high-quality product. We manufacture sign products for every situation, hold unrivalled stock of aluminium extrusions and offer a wide range of additional services from printing and application to drilling and welding. That’s why we’re the manufacturing partner of choice for over 2000 Sign Makers.
The Economics of Certainty: Why we’re the supplier you're looking for...
At Ashby, we don't just "make signs." We manufacture precision-cut aluminium blanks, fabricated trays, road signs, and bespoke signage solutions designed to withstand the rigours of the UK climate. With full in-house capabilities—high-spec digital printing and panel preparation, to laser-cutting and welding—we act as a true one-stop shop for the trade.
But in a market crowded with "quality" claims, how do you distinguish a partner from a provider?
Why trust us with your reputation?
In 2001, George Akerlof was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for his study on "asymmetric information." He explored a dilemma every sign maker faces: the "Market for Lemons."
In short, when a buyer cannot distinguish between a high-quality product (an "orange") and a poor-quality one (a "lemon"), the market becomes flooded with sub-standard goods. For an installer, a "lemon" is a substrate that delaminates or a fixing that shears under load. These errors cost you your reputation and your profit margin.
Akerlof’s research proved that reliable businesses must use "signals" to prove they aren't selling lemons, beyond a mere marketing budget. At Ashby, we use three distinct signals to guarantee you’re getting the "orange."
Longevity as a metric
Businesses that last are businesses that deliver. In the UK, only 8–10% of manufacturing firms remain in operation after 30 years. Ashby, having supplied the sign trade since 1996, is well on the way to reaching that milestone. Our long-standing success is built on customer satisfaction, repeat business, and supply chain resilience - even in the face of sector-wide and global disruptions.
Pride in place!
Visiting a potential supplier and finding a run-down, disorganised workspace is a red flag. At Ashby, we’ve invested heavily in a modern, efficient, and meticulously maintained manufacturing environment. One compliment we never tire of hearing: "Your place is really well looked after!"
Refined Process, Reliable Lead Times
In nearly 30 years of operation, we’ve continually refined and consolidated our manufacturing processes to deliver high-quality signage with consistent, competitive lead times, and take special pride in how fast we construct highly bespoke quotes.
We’re proud to be a supplier our customers can rely on - today, and in the years to come.
Approved Fabricator for Trusted Materials & Responsible Manufacturing
We’re proud to be recognised as an Approved Fabricator by Perspex Distribution Ltd, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of acrylic and composite signage materials. This status reflects the quality, consistency, and technical precision we bring to every stage of fabrication, from cutting and bonding to finishing and assembly.
But it also speaks to something deeper: our commitment to more sustainable manufacturing.
We carefully select materials that minimise environmental impact without compromising performance. It’s a difficult balance and one that requires a broad understanding of the issues. Most customers understandably want the best, the greenest, the longest-lasting, and the most cost-effective option all at once. That pushes manufacturers like us to look closely at what’s available, and Perspex Distribution Ltd consistently come out on top.
Perspex® cast acrylic offers long-lasting clarity and durability, backed by warranties that ensure performance over time. Aluminium Composite Material (ACM) used in many of our signs is made with at least 80% recycled content, and aluminium itself is infinitely recyclable, helping us meet the growing demand for signage that performs well and treads lightly.
Working with Perspex Distribution Ltd also means sourcing from a UK-focused supply chain, reducing lifecycle mileage and supporting the circular economy through access to high-quality recycled and recyclable materials.
For us, being an Approved Fabricator isn’t just about meeting standards, it’s about building better, smarter, and more responsible signage systems that last.
Our Badges of Pride
Embarking on a new business relationship can be daunting. How do you build the confidence to take the plunge and work with a company for the first time? What qualities are you hoping to see from a potential partner or collaborator? We understand it can be hard to separate the wheat from the chaff. Everyone claims to be the best, develops flamboyant websites and writes flowery blog posts to sell their greatness. We prefer a 'seeing is believing' approach. With that in mind we are proud to display our hard earned badges of ambition and professionalism!
As a display of our ongoing commitment to both product quality and customer service, we have partnered with the International Sign Association UK, powered by the British Sign & Graphics Association, who's logo is recognised nationwide as the mark of a quality sign maker. We're proud of our efforts throughout the company's history and this badge truly validates those continued efforts.
But we're not done yet. As a further sign we're not just serious, we're also the real deal, we proudly display our Citation ISO 9001 certification badge! ISO 9001 is the world’s most recognised quality management system Standard. It’s a testament to how Ashby is committed to delivering quality and has customer satisfaction at its core. Our certificate can be viewed from the footer of the website, simply click the badge.
Our product range is diverse, our expertise extensive, and our core values enable us to deliver on your ambitions. We look forward to working together!
